 Early American Trades Coloring Page

This coloring page shows what an early American fire fighter might have looked like as they responded to a house fire. The cart they used held a hand-operated water pump that would help obtain water from the nearest well. The water had to be carried to the fire in buckets.

As the new American Colonies grew in population there was a constant need for the creation of goods and services needed by the new colonies. Tradesmen and home craftsmen alike found their services in great demand. As towns and states grew there began the need for common social services such as policemen, firemen, mail carriers, lamp lighters and town criers. In addition the butcher, baker, blacksmith, and candle maker were always in high demand.
